After a signification level of consultation with Australia’s leading veterinarians and surgeons, Washpool Lodge are now confident with the inclusion of our Aqua Trainer Water Walker, we have the complete rehabilitation center.
The increased resistance and buoyancy of water requires a significant amount of muscular work to move while providing very low impact and stress on bones and joints – so it’s an ideal rehabilitation method.
Hydrotherapy has several physiological benefits on horses, including increased cardiovascular fitness, increased blood pressure, changes in muscle activity throughout the body compared to walking exercise, increased muscle strength/tone with lower risk of injury (due to less weight bearing), and potential healing/preventive benefits for lower limb injuries and laminitis if the water is cold.
Safety is also of paramount importance, especially when dealing with water and we have a specialised Rubber flooring, which gives the horses a non-slip walking surface. For further information on the AquaTrainer, click HERE.
